Gabon Special Economic Zone - More than wood, it's red gold
The Republic of Gabon SEZ has been working in conjunction with Olam International (Singapore) to create an integrated industrial park with focus on the timber industry.
The project has been allotted 2 million hectares of forest within close proximity to the park, with a further 2 million in the process of being allotted. TEREA & FRM International have been engaged to prepare a comprehensive SFM plan for these allotted areas of forest.
This joint venture is a bid to make Gabon SEZ a globally competitive destination for timber processing by providing considerable advantages through logistics, access to raw materials at no additional cost, reduced processing costs and improved productivity.
The integrated SEZ is being developed with $200m of investment, and will provide basic infrastructure through roads, water supply, uninterrupted power supply, fibre optic connectivity for communications, as well as state of the art specialised common infrastructure that will reduce the capital costs for the companies involved.
