His Excellency Kennedy Jawan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to South Africa attended the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) Seminar in Johannesburg on 11 June 2012. About forty participants from the timber industry of South Africa attended the seminar.
In his welcoming remarks, H.E. Kennedy Jawan commended MTC for their proactiveness in promoting Malaysian timber in South Africa. He urged the participants to use the seminar as a platform to establish networking and subsequently business linkages. He also assured the participants of Malaysia’s compliance with international law and standards; and that the timber industry in Malaysia practise sustainable production of timber, distinguishing itself over and above other markets. He hoped the business linkages would result in a win-win situation for both parties.
H.E. Kennedy Jawan also encouraged participants to leverage upon the excellent state of Malaysia-South Africa bilateral relations in pursuing mutually-beneficial economic interest.
