The Rio Summit on Sustainable Development opens in a few hours in the presence of leaders from around the world. The speech by Head of State His Excellency Ali Bongo Ondimba is eagerly awaited, because of Gabon's pioneering and forward thinking position on these fundamentally important questions facing the planet.
The Emerging Gabon policy and its cross-cutting approach to sustainable development exists independently of the Rio Summit, but aligns perfectly with it.
In a joint venture with Olam International (Singapore), Republic of Gabon is working to make Gabon SEZ a globally competitive destination for timber processing. The project has been allotted 2 million hectares of forest, with a further 2 million in the process of being allotted.
The integrated SEZ is being developed with an investment of $200m to offer huge advantages in logistics, sourcing of raw materials, reduced processing costs, and improved productivity.
