TIMBERWeb has produced a new guide to the key tree species used in the production of lumber and wood products.
The pictorial guide will help buyers and manufacturers learn more about the species they are working with, and help sellers who can email details of the species they specialise in to potential customers.
The guide includes all major hardwood and softwood species, and has details of a wood's working properties, its origin, physical properties and technical specification.

Australia: Timber pests a threat to lumber export future
Timber diseases and pests are a threat to the future expansion of Australia’s lumber export trade, researchers said.
Finland: Norscan pulp stocks fell by 84,000 tonnes in May
Producers' stocks of long-fibre wood pulp in Finland, Sweden, Canada and the United States fell by 84,000 tonnes in May to 1.84 million, a Finnish forest industry official said.

Plum Creek Timber Co. said on Tuesday it would proceed with a nearly year-old $3.1 billion agreement to purchase Timber Co. from larger rival Georgia-Pacific Corp. after learning the merger would be tax free to both companies and their shareholders.
Indonesia: New plans for forest rehabilitation
Plans to redistribute 90 per cent of reforestation funds raised from timber companies into improving provincial land rehabilitation programmes has been announced by the forestry ministry.
