A lawsuit has been filed against restrictions on whole log exports from private forests in Canada's largest timber-producing province, setting the stage for a new battle between the industry, its unions and environmentalists.

USA: Pine and hardwood sawn timber prices rise in southern states
The price of pine and hardwood sawn timber rose in the second quarter of 2001 alongside most other major wood products in the southern US states, say new figures.

Australia: PaperlinX sells timber assets for A$152m
Australian paper maker PaperlinX Ltd said on Tuesday it would sell its Australian Paper Plantations for A$152 million (US$76 million), in line with its book value.

Canada: Rising lumber prices as Alliance beats expectations
The timber harvesting and lumber products company, Alliance Forest Products, beat expectations with net sales of C$298.9 million during the second quarter 2001, in part due to higher prices for its lumber products.

USA: US June key lumber imports from Canada fell 11.4 per cent
Canada's June shipments to the United States of a key variety of softwood lumber were down an unadjusted 11.4 percent from May, the Commerce Department said on Thursday.
